Yanji, the capital of Yanbian

Yanji in Yanbian, a bilingual city

Yanji (or Yeongil in Korean) is the capital of the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in the northeast of Jilin district. The prefecture is bordering Russia in the north, and North Korea in the east.

Due to the large number of ethnic Koreans living in the region, the prefecture is designated as an autonomous prefecture. As official languages both Korean and Chinese are used.

The prefecture has important archaeological sites: the Ancient Tombs at Longtou, and the museum of Yanji contains many beautiful historical artifacts.
